    Neil Haines

    Delivery driver/fitter


    I have worked at Be Independent for 6 years and am involved with the delivery and fitting of equipment to customers homes and care homes. I also help out with repairs to telecare equipment. The job gives me a great sense of pride to help out in the community.

    Peter Wright

    Business support/recycling technician


    I have two roles at Be Independent. In my recycling technician role, I repair and recycle community equipment so it can be reissued back into the community, to help our customers lead independent lives in their own homes. I also assist our business support team giving me the knowledge to help our referrers, suppliers and core customers. Both roles give me a great sense of pride and satisfaction.

    Business support


    I provide administration for the equipment team, support project work and enjoy researching new ideas to promote the business. For the past 10 years I have worked for Local Authorities in adults and children's social care. I love working at Be Independent, we’re a fab team and supporting the community of York and beyond is very rewarding.

    Heather Barden

    CEO


    Having worked in the public sector for most of her 30 year career, Heather is proud to have been an integral part in the creation of Be Independent. As well as being a trained nurse she also has many years’ experience in senior management roles in health, social care and integrated organisations. Her mission is to make a positive difference to peoples’ lives and she is committed to Be Independent’s vision to promote lifelong independence.

    Director of operations


    With experience working as an operational manager in the public sector, I have specialised in developing, leading and managing community health and social care services for many years. I'm passionate about bridging the gaps that exist in the health and social care sectors.

    Iain has a background in warehousing, logistics and IT and has been working for Be Independent as our telecare refurbishment technician for 3 years. Iain is proud to be part of such an inspirational Community Interest Company (CIC) and to have been elected to the board by our staff.

    Clive has held leading roles in the development of sport, health, education, training, the arts and commerce. He has also been both managing director and chairman of Yorkshire Television as well as chairman of Leeds Health Authority

    David Bould

    Board member


    David is a retired Chartered Accountant. After qualifying he spent most of his professional career working in the television industry, latterly at board level where he was responsible for managing the day to day finances. He then worked as Finance Director at a Further Education College and finally as Chief Executive of a small specialist publishing company.
